Tithonia Diversifolia, Bolivian Sunflower, Mexican Sunflower, a fabulous & exciting Butterfly Plant— also in Permaculture used as an all organic soil enhancer/organic Fertilizer. Tithonia diversifolia Giant Sunflower is a truly amazing plant! You will receive 12 FRESH substantial cuttings 6-8” long and at least 1/4 INCH thick! These are rigorous, exceptionally HEALTHY beautiful CUTTINGS, cut fresh on day they r shipped! I will ship Cuttings similar to the ACTUAL posted pictures. No pot, no soil, no roots, just fresh cuttings. The cuttings in the picture are representative of EXACTLY what you honorably will receive. I cut from my 6 mother plants. These are “Bare root” that were vigorously growing the day they were cut. They will be triple washed, soaked for several hours, then the bottom 1/2s wrapped in soaking wet paper towel then plastic to keep them viable Until they arrive so it may be soggy but that’s how best to keep them viable in shipping. They WILL wilt when you first pot them up. But within a week, kept moist, they’ll pop back like magic! PLEASE HAVE SUPER WET GOOD UNUSED BEGORE POTTING MUX IN POTS when cuttings arrive. The faster u get them right in very wet soil the better the take rate! Keep out of hot direct sun (bright shade best), keep moist and start in a warm place— not cold garage! These really want to grow and have great take rate the sooner they hit soil. If you have rooting hormone, roll bottom 1/2 of cutting in that before inserting in soil! It is an unusual perennial that gets great green foliage and bright yellow sunflower-like flowers on top of stems to 15 feet tall or more. They are butterfly, bee and pollinator magnets!! This plant can also be grown as an annual anywhere and cuttings can be taken in late fall, potted up and overwintered inside/-and can also be grown as a tender perennial in USDA Hardiness Zones 9 to 11. Place about half of the cutting's length underground. Try placing it upright. I will have an arrow to indicate which side down on wrapping. Make sure that at least two or 3 nodes are completely under the soil. These cuttings are sent with plenty of nodes!! Bury as deep as u can in your soil. Make sure the soil or sand is compacted around the cutting so that the nodes contact the soil/sand with no airpockets.Put some water in the hole before inserting the cutting to make compacting the cutting easier and this will jump start process. I still water in again and squish the potting mix around cutting to be sure good contact is made. After that, water it daily to keep it very moist until you see new growth. Don’t fret if it wilts at first. Once established, water when dry especially if you see wilt. Do not overwater. They can be prone to rot but if hot they like to drink. Xeriscape plant, high drought tolerance. Can grow in poor soil but does well if enriched. Excellent useful flowering permaculture plant. —PERMACULTURE: This plant can be used to replenish soil that has been depleted of all of its nutrients. It is a good choice to replace expensive fertilizers. Just chop and drop where soil is needy. I have converted dry sandy, parched dirt into earthworm rich, black gold using the cuttings and leaves of regular trimmings from this plant. Called Organic « green manure » nutrient accumulator, thus used as a fertilizer, claimed to work almost a well as chemical fertilizers. Due to its ability to uptake elements, can be used to « mop up” or absorb metals from soils. Save and plant cuttings in pots to overwinter. Do not keep soil damp in ground as this can lead to rot.
