eBay Connoiseur of Time 1956 JAEGER-LECOULTRE Vintage Large Mens « Waterproof » Watch – 18K Gold Big & Beautiful – Original Dial – 1 Year Warranty Big & Beautiful – Screw Back « Waterproof » – Original Dial – Warranty Today’s auction showcases this very elegant and large gents Jeager-LeCoultre in 18K rose gold. Our photos just couldn’t do it justice. At 35mm in diameter not including the crown and 43mm long, this full size beauty looks great on the wrist. With a classic silver dial, beautiful 18K gold case with screw back, and superior caliber 10 lignes P800 movement with shock resistance, its showcases the quality and gorgeous design one expects from JLC. The P800, a fairly uncommon engine, also served as the basis for LeCoultre wonderful « Calendar Date » push-button crown watches for the U.S. market, which we have two examples of for sale as of this writing. The case is wonderfully thin and unlike many of JLC’s dress watches from the era, it was originally waterproof and has a screw-down back. It is fully a European version JLC, and the 18K gold seems to have a hint of rose to it to our eye. While fully made at JLC’s factory in Switzerland – not with an American market case like many sold here in the States – interestingly it was actually intended for the U.S. market and was imported by Vacheron & Constantin, part of the U.S. entity that handled JLC’s sales in the States. Its full size case is in excellent condition with light wear and hairline scratches around the edge of the back from the back being previously tightened. It has strong lines and has never had any polishing done….the case still has a light patina. Its untouched original dial has warmed to a sepia tone, giving the watch a « tropical » style and true vintage look. And its high-grade handwound JLC movement is keeping accurate time. One of our Master Watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and serviced it and poised the balance. It is keeping accurate time. For the finishing touch,have we have equipped it with a brand new crocodile strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
