The Boeing 747 is a wide-body commercial airliner and cargo transport aircraft, often referred to by its original nickname, Jumbo Jet, or Queen of the Skies. It is among the world’s most recognizable aircraft and was the first wide-body produced. First flown commercially in 1970, the 747 held the passenger capacity record for 37 years. The actual real aircraft upon which this model is based was involved in a landing gear mishap. Described as follows: On Wednesday 19 October 1994, Boeing 747-312, Reg #VH-INH (c/n 23026-580) operated by Ansett Australia was involved in a landing gear mishap. The flight was an international regular public transport operation between Sydney, Australia and Osaka, Japan. At approximately one hour after departure the crew shut down the number one engine because of an oil leak. They returned the aircraft to Sydney where the approach proceeded normally until the landing gear was selected. With selection of the landing gear and selection of the flap beyond a setting of flaps 20, the landing gear warning horn began to sound because the nose landing gear had not extended. The flight crew unsuccessfully attempted to establish the reason for the warning. Believing the gear to be down, the crew elected to complete the landing, with the result that the aircraft was landed with the nose gear retracted. There was no fire and the pilot in command decided not to initiate an emergency evacuation. After this all passengers and flight crew disembarked safely. There were no fatalities. The aircraft was subsequently repaired, and it returned to service on 11 December 1994. JC Wings’ 1:200 scale 747 is an exceptionally large and heavy model in this scale (over two pounds) and is constructed almost entirely of solid diecast metal. The extra wide-body fuselage, with its wonderfully sculpted nose section, features all around seamless construction with pad-printed windows and doors. The model is supported on an all metal fixed landing gear with soft rubber tires and a steerable nose wheel. The solid metal wings are constructed as a single unit, and then carefully fitted to the fuselage. They feature accurately replicated flap track fairings on the underside and metal engine nacelles with turbo-fan details inside. Highly detailed JC Wings diecast model airplanes.
