People are playing, band programs are finally back in full swing (pun intended, unless you only play classical). Time to get going and see if we can get someone a « new » horn. Lot of ‘nets sold here over the years, but we shut it all down halfway through the pandemic. I foolishly thought people would be playing while stuck at home, and shopping for horns, and that was wrong, but we did get a lot of horns prepped. Suddenly, 2023, and I have half a dozen that are done, that will be listed, or already are, as well as a bunch just waiting. All service done by a long-time, highly experienced tech. If you are looking for something particular, even not-yet refurbished, message me. Perhaps I can help. Don’t think I’ll ever get them all done, so willing to sell some as is. If you are one of those people who lives for the story that comes with, this may be your horn. If you are the ‘net player looking for something a little out of the ordinary, for when you just aren’t in the mood for your R-13, this could be your instrument. I purchased this horn from the family of the original owner about 8 years ago. The plan was to find something interesting for our in-house woodwind player. Alas, not only is he not a big clarinet player, he wanted something a little more in tune with his musical tastes. This is a pro horn, and with its straight bore, really is legit. Pre-13s in this condition do NOT come along very often–it’s beautiful, and was obviously someone’s pride and joy. The story is that the original owner purchased it new in 1934. Now I know there are a few different charts out there that show a 17XXX serial could be ’34, or it could be ’35-36. However the info we have, like the horn, was handed down through the family from the owner to the grandson, the gentleman who sold it to me. We have a couple of little notes from the original owner’s wife and grandson, and thus, we take it as gospel. ’34 it is. The owner played professionally for many years, including in orchestras in Green Bay and Milwaukee. Sorry, no idea if he was a football fan or not. The case was replaced years ago, but the pieces of the original, blue, Buffet ribbon, are in the envelope with the notes. That alone speaks volumes. Case is like new, and keys are included. This horn was completely overhauled, top to bottom. Quality stuff. The entire top joint is cork pads. Bottom is leather. Some people may have an issue with the cork, but I had my reasons at the time. All the cork, including the tenons, has been done. The horn was basically stripped down, everything checked and lubed, and I remoisturized the entire body, gradually, over about a four month period. No cracks of course. I just spent an hour repolishing the silver keys before photographing it. It comes with what I assume is the original Buffet MP, with a real, live, Harrison lig. There is also a BG Super Revelation leather lig. Those are neat. One of those spin-together stands, tucked in the bell, an LED light that is, amazingly, working, a reed sanding pad, and a plastic reed board too. All the musician’s tools of the trade. Please ask as many questions, or request as many additional, specific pics, as you like. I will do my best to oblige. All horns are stored here in a clean, smoke free environment. All through these last 3 years I’ve taken care to make sure the horns have not dried out, despite lack of movement. I won’t hesitate to say most people will want to adjust things to their touch, but we did just go over this horn about a week before listing it to get it clean, and to tweak some things. Beautiful sound. I prefer to ship clarinets by surface post. I’m not a fan of air shipments for wooden instruments. Priority Mail is offered, if that’s a must, but I don’t recommend air shipping. The horn will be meticulously packed for shipping. The item includes a handling charge to make sure Ebay doesn’t leave me without funds for insurance. Insurance is NOT an option. International is via E-bay’s global program. Every attempt has been made to list and describe the item exactly as it is. If the horn is not to your liking, you may return it, at your expense. If there is an issue, you must contact me within ten days of receipt. Please remember this horn is nearly 90 years old. It’s in incredible condition for that age, but yes, there are some scratches and nicks in the wood. Nothing bad, as the photos will show. Amazing piece of history. Thanks for your time.
