Hutschenreuther 1939-1964 from Selb, Bavaria DESCRIPTION: Never have we seen a bowl hand painted like this one!! This superb quality china has colors that are bright & realistic. This is hand decorated on a blank of fine white china. The pattern includes a brown beetle & bright yellow poppy like flowers with bright green leaves with brown and black outlined stems. The smaller leaves are also black outlined. The use of the black outlining on the leaves gives an unexpected pop to the pattern. This is such an eye catcher and conversation piece. It has the artist signature N. Naw on the back. See the last photo. CONDITION: While this bowl is classified as used, the condition is superb. We find no nicks, chips, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. There appears to be absolutely no wear to the colors and no crazing. Look in the photos to see this. DIMENSIONS: The triangular bowl measures 8 5/8″ from point to the opposite side with a height of 1 11/16″. HISTORY/MARKS: The Hutschenreuther porcelain story began when Karl Magnus Hutschenreuther, 1793-1845, discovered kaolin in northeastern Bavaria in 1814 where he established his company. His son Lorenz managed the Hohenberg porcelain factory from 1845-1857. He founded his own Hutschenreuther Porcelain Company in Selb in 1856 which became highly successful and 113 years later absorbed his father’s company. All of the Hutschenreuther Companies were trend setters of high quality porcelain. Hutschenreuther became known for the love of detail, distinctive brilliance of color, and lustrous beauty shown through the decorating of the fine porcelain pieces. The mark on this bowl is that of the Hutschenreuther Selb Germany LHS company which the Hutschenreuther website (porzellansammlung) cites as used 1939-1964.
