Share the magic! ****** COLLECTION LIQUIDATION — I am helping a magic friend sell most of his collection, (and I already had a ton of magic I was trying to get listed!) so I am putting his Collection items in this separate eBay store category, and I will probably not be saying too much about the items. I will give a few good photos, and I will give a quick assessment of the item. If you know your magic, you will recognize many items and know they are a great deal here. Or if you don’t know the item, you may have to do a bit of online research to find out about it. Or you can just trust my honest (though quick) assessment of any item — I always endeavor to tell you the good and the bad of anything I sell. You just gotta love Japanese magicians — they come up with the coolest, off-the-wall effects, and Immortal Daruma is one of them. The effect is: a traditional Japanese toy is shown — a wooden stacking block doll that players try to knock pieces out with a small wooden hammer. It is placed on the table and the magi tries to knock out the bottom piece with the hammer, but the stacked doll hops up in the air and avoids the hammer blow! Or you knock the while thing over, and the separate pieces magically crawl back together and stack themselves. You can probably guess what secret magician’s gimmick is involved here, and if you have guessed correctly, you also will understand when I say that the effect is best when seen from a short distance — like a living room show. But with care it can be done fairly close-up. I think the effect is best when it is short and sweet — first you knock one piece out the bottom, and it visibly climbs back into place. Then you knock the whole doll down, and place a small folding screen (or book) in front of the pieces. A moment later, remove the screen (or book), and the doll has magically re-assembled. Then you take the hammer to it one more time, but this time, the doll leaps up over the swinging hammer. (I prefer to do the total doll restoration behind a screen or book, because i think it is « too perfect » to watch the pieces come back together in full view. But you can also do it that way.) NOTE: no screen or book is included. Also the deck of cards in the photo is not included either — it is just there so you can see the size scale of this cute little prop. ANOTHER NOTE: performing this trick is NOT easy — you will need to practice and get used to the necessary handling, as well as a setting the gimmick to suit your own height and performing stance. Do NOT expect to do this one for people 5 minutes (or even 5 hours) after taking it out of the package! On my recent online search, I see that there are a lot of inferior copies of this trick being sold for very low prices — if you are just curious about how this works, maybe one of those copies will satisfy that. But if you want to actually learn and perform this effect, you should make sure you get the authentic, high quality PROMA version. That is the version I have for sale here. Selling price for authentic Immortal Daruma from PROMA run from $32-$36. The inferior copies can be found for about half that.
