At first, he struggled to get this work published until it came to the attention of Charles Kingsley, who provided a preface for the book, after which Longman accepted it for publication.Bennett’s version of The Pilgrim’s Progress is an interesting book for many reasons. it represents the artist’s single attempt at dramatic illustration rather than humor; it is also significant as a work dividing opinion, and for the problems attending its publication.
