Vintage SuperLectric 87-CHROME 110/120V AC/DCSuperior Electric Iron w/Bakelite Handle Made by the SUPERIOR PRODUCTS CORP of St. Louis, MO. The box is marked « 87-CHROME ». This is the one with the « porthole » in the side that lights up when the element is hot enough to use. Comes with the original cord and box. The original cloth covered cord is in good repair and is still pliable. When plugged in the « porthole » lights up and the soles heats up.You know, they kept it in the original box it’s entire life. The box is missing the top and one flap, see pictures. The box has some white, plastic tape on one corner which wasn’t my doing. I will leave it on for the new owner to remove or not. Also included are 2 hang tags, one from GE and the other from Superior, see pictures. Some of these No. 87 irons have a wood handle, but this one has a Bakelite handle with some red in it, see pictures. The condition is Excellent with some chrome plating loss and the subsequent superficial rust, see pictures. I have not cleaned this item and will leave that task to the new owner, if they choose to do so. The iron by itself weighs 5.0lb-3.7oz. Since the box doesn’t break down flat, the iron will be shipped in the box with plenty of bubble wrap and peanuts for protection. The hang tags and the cord will be pushed down in the sides of the package, so open the package by cutting where it’s taped and you’ll be OK. Item is securely packed in a new cardboard shipping box for fast, safe shipping. Shipped USPS Ground Advantage/ USPS Priority Mail International because it is over 4 pounds, with tracking.
